When an email is added to a double opt in autoresponder, either manually or through a website form, it will automatically send a confirmation email to the new subscriber. This email will contain a link that they will need to click to verify their request to join.

With ever growing concerns about email spam resulting in new company policies across the internet and also new laws for various countries, double opt in email marketing is essentially an insurance policy for email marketers.
